The Celtic Warrior Collection was inspired by one of Ireland's most important archaeological finds - the Ardagh Chalice
. The Chalice is recognized as one of the finest pieces of 8th century metalwork ever discovered, and its beauty is on a par with the Book of Kells. It was unearthed in 1868 by two boys digging in a field harvesting potatoes. It is currently on display at the National Museum of Ireland
The Ardagh Chalice is made from silver and is adorned with 354 separate pieces of gold, lead pewter, brass, copper, bronze and enamel. These are formed into panels on the chalice, and the entire piece is encircled with a gold filigree band containing shields and Celtic artwork. It is the filigree band in particular that inspired the Celtic Warrior Collection, and these same ancient designs are featured on each piece.
The level of detail and craftsmanship on the Ardagh Chalice is simply stunning. Today, skilled Irish goldsmiths continue this fine tradition, producing the Celtic Warrior jewelry. As your assurance of authenticity and quality, each piece is hallmarked at the Assay Office in Dublin Castle.
The Celtic Warrior Collection has been chosen by the Irish Government as gifts to present to Foreign Dignitaries. These are truly examples of Irish craftsmanship at its best. Each piece is presented in a luxurious presentation box for gifting.
